Manufacturing of the Backwater Legent- HouseBoat

Since from the time immemorial, the man has been investing his own efforts and happieness in voyage. so we can pleased and share our voyage experiences across the Waters of God’s own Country. A huge vessel is used to transport cargo as well as passengers across the water way in keralam what we can call house boats in these days were once known as kettuvallom or kevuvallom exclusively fashioned out of wild jacks. It was well known for its higher load carring capacity. kerala has a unique landscape with backwaters, lagoons and abundance of water body, the 'kevuvallom' played an important role in reinforcing the economy of kerala in the middle era. Gradually the reputation disappeared when trucks came into play of cargo moving, it is now being used as 'houseboats' for tourists round the globe.
Kerala, The God’s own Country has over 900 km of interconnected rivers, lakes and inlets that make up the backwaters. In the midst of this beautiful landscape there are a number of towns and cities also, which are the starting and end points of backwater cruises in kerala. National Waterway such as No. 3 from Kollam to Kottapuram, covers a distance of 205 km and runs almost parallel to the coast line of southern Kerala facilitating both cargo and backwater tourism
Boats in a variety of shapes and sizes are available in  traditionally been the main means of transport of men and materials in the Kerala Backwaters since from the olden days. In particular, the houseboats, were used to ship rice and spices and also other goods between Kuttanad and the Cochin port. It was a three-day affair in those days. A standard house boat, which could be about 100 feet long, can hold up to 30 tons, and that is as much as equal to three big lorries can.

A specialist group or a team working has its own genuine methodology in manufacturing Keralam Kettuvallams. They use the coconut  fibers more and so that they can reduce the weight of the vessel. The hull of the houseboat is comprised a series of wooden plants gathered from the wild jack only by the experts. These wooden planks are tied together with coconut fibers with the same is placed in between them. The surface tension is of it is reduced by meams of oils like shark oil, mackrel oil which is pasted under vessel and it reduces the friction and ensures comfortable voyage experienceto all. These vessels can be made of standards from 40ft ,10ft upto 125, 25ft and these gigantic figures of transport occupy and as thousands of tones with lesser effort. Houseboats can be made of wood, fibure and steel. A tipical houseboat can provide bed rooms and attached toileteries , living area , and an upper deck and also surley a kitchen. A luxurious houseboat can compramises a spacious bathroom with toilet, bed room with luxurious facilities and a wide deck besides conference hall and broad drawing rooms, swimming pool and also many more. By using solar pannels and other eco- friendly sources, generate energy and  we use Bacteria to decompose our wastages - A true eco friendly venture.

The Houseboat  is motorised and is steered in deep waters by means of oars or a rudder. Long bamboo poles are used to propel in shadow areas. The crew of a houseboat  comprises a cook or chef. Fresh food, cooked in inimitable Kuttanadan style is the rage of the international tourists.
Basically the Houseboat  was originally designed to transport cargo and as such many design changes had to be made to make it a tourist vehicle. The height of roof was increased to get sufficient headroom. A plank was laid all through the length to reduce the disadvantages of curved shape of hull for walking and comfortable seating. Windows and other openings were provided for light, airflow and the view. The entrance is provided in the centre of the linear axis with a top hung panel.
